Of all the races, Zolder feels like one of the weirdest race with no crowds. Straight after Christmas, it always used to be a super-busy race, so this is the venue that probably feels the emptiest (the other one is Loenhout, we’ll see about that on Thursday). I was just wandering up and down, without being impeded by drunk fans, but it just wasn’t the same.
Even climbing onto a car race jury concrete box thingy couldn’t cheer me up. It seemed like a great idea from the bottom, but when I climbed up on the ladder, the angles weren’t anything to write home about.
It’s been a long week and a half, I’m looking forward to some downtime tomorrow. I’m staying in Valkenburg and I wanted to go to the thermal spa thingy, where the press room used to be during the World Cups, but it’s either closed or sold out until the 15th Jan, so maybe next time.
