2021 World Cup #12 – Dendermonde

Contrary to many, I do like Dendermonde. Last year’s edition was probably memorable because of the insane amount of mud and the heavy rain through the day. This year, it was less muddy and we even got some actual sunshine. This race feels like the quintessential Belgian cross venue. It’s just a field with a lot of mud, some agricultural machinery and a lot of course tape up and down.

It was good to see WVA, MvdP and the rest of the field going head-to-head for the first time this season, though Wout seems to be slightly above the rest of the field. Cameron Mason’s U23 win was also memorable, it’s always good to see someone breaking the Benelux chokehold on race wins. Tomorrow is a bit easier day, as Zolder is not a World Cup, but it’s been a long weekend, so I’m looking forward to some time off on Tuesday.
