As many of you might know, originally, I’m from Hungary. While Hungary is not a traditional hotbed of cycling, there is a strong cyclocross in the country and they often produce the most exciting race venues. A couple of years ago, I visited Etyekcross, a race near Budapest, that was held on the grounds of a film studio. The race was held in January, on a bitterly cold day, but I vividly remember as the riders rode from contemporary New York (the set of Hellboy) to medieval Italy (the set of The Borgias).
Last weekend, I visited the MOFEM Underworld Kupa, which was held in the old underground warehouse of a renowned brewery. Even on a punishingly hot day, like last Saturday, the air in the underground tunnels felt cold, couldn’t have been more then 13-15 degrees down there. After spending a few minutes there, I started to feel really cold, which is quite a feat in the current heatwave.
As it was just a quick visit, I only took a handful of shots, but I thought it would be worthwhile to share them. And as I’m looking at the calendar, the first cyclocross World Cup of the 2019/2020 season is less then a month away! Cross is definitely coming.
