I shouldn’t have been here. A few years ago, I’ve made a promise to myself: I only cover series races (World Cup, Superprestige and DVV Verzkeringen Trofee), with the odd exception of Druivencross in Overijse and a few others. The reason is simple: I travel so much, why travel to a race where most of my clients wouldn’t need photos from? The only problem was that up until yesterday, I didn’t realise that the race in Essen is not part of the DVV series. It has been for the last seven or eight years, but not this time. I know, rookie mistake.
After taking a look at the start list, it dawned on me that most of my clients weren’t going to be here. But all the travel arrangements have been made at this point, so I drove over. And I didn’t regret it. I just enjoyed that the day was a lot less stressful and hurried like normally. It was so nice and it’s so rare that I can have a relaxed day. So that’s what I was doing today and that’s what I’ll be doing in Overijse tomorrow.
