It was like the first day of the school: it’s all very exciting, you can’t wait to do new things with the same people. You meet friends who you haven’t seen for months. And while the weather is sunny, it’s clear that the summer is over and the winter is coming.

That’s exactly how today’s race, my first cross race of the 2012/2013 season felt like. My fingers were itching to shoot cross again, it was great to see some friends again, journalists and riders alike, it was reinvigorating to see some great racing after a 7 month long draught and while the sun was shining all day long, it was clear that it was more like the exception and not the norm.

I wrote long captions to all photos and due to a sudden computer error (or stupid user error, we’ll never know) all these captions disappeared and as it’s almost midnight, I will not reenter these comments. Maybe they weren’t worth of the space. But the photos are here to tell the story of the day.

To me, one of the highlights were clearly Nikki Harris’ first Superprestige win but it was also interesting to see Lars Van Der Haar riding with the big boys or Mike Theunissen’s impressive win of the ‘beloften’ race. See you next week in Ronse!

Epic shots as always, Balint… you are the man! So good to see Lars van der Haar joins The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen this year. It will be a more exciting CX starting from now on… finally a Dutch rep after the ‘Boom’ whom should be taken seriously in the big 5. But my hero is still the amazing Sven Nys,….still going strong… what an athlete! I hope his legacy in CX will be carried on by the younger generation.

Thank you! You are right, it is good to see a new face in the top echelons of the sport.

balint, i was to excited to do my first race of the new cross year. I see after 7 months you still got it. Maybe a technical question. Do you shoot in hypersync flash or do you use normal 1/250 sec with flashes. For me pic of the day is : wietse bosman with flash, just outstanding, really inspiring. See my pics on pietervh.com this evening, still have to post them
    greats
