And now for something completely different. Well, not completely, but fairly distant from the usual pro cross racing.
A few weeks ago I received a message from a certain Guy Kahouze. The message was an invitation, to a slightly unusual cyclocross race – how often do you see a single speed cross race in Wallonie? While I have always wanted to cover a few local races, my busy schedule means that I can never come to London League races, the Rapha Supercrosses, etc.
Given that this race only coincided with the Jaarmarktcross, which isn’t my favourite race and that it was very close to my Belgian base in Kortrijk, I said yes.
The whole day turned out to be just the way as I had expected: it was quirky, slightly disorganised and whole lot of fun. It also raised money for a cancer charity, in memory of a rider who passed away on this day a year ago.
Shooting outside of the usual cross bubble turned out to be even more fun than I had originally anticipated and if the organisers will put up this race next year, I will be there.
