2021 Cyclocross World Championships – Oostende, Day 2

There are so many things that will make this World Championships memorable:

The three COVID tests over six days to be able to come to the race, to attend the race and to be able to go home afterwards

The way the sea became integral part of almost every race

I don’t think we’ll see anytime soon a similarly huge flyover at a race

The scuba driver, who slowly drifted near the race with a camera in hand in the ice cold water. I’m sure his photos will emerge in the next couple of days – talk about unique angle, eh?

Another podium for a Hungarian rider at a big cycling event, another day it was good to be Hungarian at a big cycling event.

Even when when the sun was out, it was often bitterly cold and I needed most of my layers to stay warm

The Dutch full sweep – the Netherlands have been dominating the Worlds for a while now, but my memory doesn’t go back far enough to remember only Dutch riders on the top step of the podium. In fact, Hungary finished third in the overall medal table, with Blanka’s bronze!

I’m on my way home and I’m not sure I will be able to return next week – France will be introducing some new travel restrictions tomorrow, I will have to see what’s realistic at this stage. I hope it’s not the end of the season for me, but if it is, it was a good way to end it.
