It feels wrong to complain about good weather but cyclo-cross and sunshine just don’t go together – but it’s a very convenient condition to take pictures in. However, luck shone us as clouds started to cover the sky but it didn’t rain. It was almost perfect: you get the benefit of dramatic backgrounds but you don’t have to sit in mud on hours end.
I’ve seen some great racing and I think it’s really interesting to see that while it’s very early in the season, no one seems to be overwhelmingly dominant. There are at least ten riders to be reckoned with, the three major races saw three different winners (Ruddervoorde – Niels Albert, Plzen – Sven Nys, Tabor – Kevin Pauwels) and Stybar is constantly near the top so it’s just a matter of time before he will claim his first win of the season. It would be great to see new faces on the podium but the end of the season is far and at this point still anything can happen. But this is an exciting season and I can’t wait for next week’s Superprestige race at Zonhoven and then two days later my first ever Koppenberg Cross!!
