It rarely happens, but I definitely spread myself too thin yesterday. A last-minute assignment knocked on my door on Friday and I didn’t want to say no to. I know I often harp on about how busy World Cup days are, when I need to shoot all four races on the day. But normally I have some downtime between the races. Not yesterday, though. Between races, I was hustling to do more work. This would have been ok, but then I got Eurotunnel’s email, that due to maintenance I would have to catch my originally booked train or else. I didn’t want to spend the night in Calais, so I jumped in the car at 7:30 sharp to get to Calais by 10pm. I got there, only to then sit and wait for a train about 45 minutes. So my post-race routine ended up being very hurried and frantic.
Anyway, what I took on was doable, but it pushed me to my limits – so little time and so much to do. But nonetheless, it was a fun day and Hoogerheide is always pregnant with expectations with the Worlds just around the corner. Who is holding it back to lure their opponents into a false sense of security and who’s going all out to put fear into some hearts? Who’s managed to time their form well for the climax of the season? We’ve had very few races dedicated to the women juniors and U23s, so it will be interesting to see how those races will unfold. I can’t wait to see the big, final battles on Saturday and on Sunday.
