When the 2016/2017 race calendar was published in January, during the Worlds, it indicated that the Diegem Superprestige round would be held on 25th December. I hoped it was a typo and a bit later it was clarified, that it would be held two days before, on the 23rd. It was still the earliest edition of this race, it often ended up being the last race of the year. While it’s not directly on Christmas day, being held on the 23rd means that I can’t really go back to the UK for Christmas. I have spent Christmases in the past alone in Belgium so it’s not the end of the World, but I would have preferred this race a bit later in the week.
Another frustrating thing was that, finally, I wanted to complete the Festive 500 challenge. I worked it all out, had a strict schedule, that should have worked perfectly. It seems I have to wait another year to complete it. Six weeks ago, I took a wrong step, very slightly twisted my know and it’s been painful since then. The physio couldn’t help me, I ended up having an MRI taken on Wednesday, so I will know by early next year what the problem is and how it could be sorted out. But I will still end up jealously looking at Instagram and Facebook all week, following other people’s Festive 500 adventures.
Let me wish you all a very Happy Christmas, see you in a few days in Zolder!
