Count your blessings, as the saying goes. Looking in back on the last five years, my years of shooting cross, I haven’t missed a single race due to health reasons (or for any other reason, for that matter). I often take being healthy granted and most of the time, I am healthy. Not today, though. I came down with something a couple of days ago, a bit of fewer and general lethargy and weakness. Last night, my temperature peaked at 38.5 Celsius.
Working, when you want nothing but to stay in bed and sleep is far from ideal. This is one of the downside of being a freelancer: nobody is going to pick up the slack if you’re out of commission. It is not entirely true, if something truly serious happened, I could ask for help from other photographers, but you get the picture. Fortunately, the temperature dropped to normal levels this morning and while I’m still feeing miserable, I was able to work in Essen. Sometimes, you just have to suck it up.
I’m hoping that I’ll be ok tomorrow for Overijse – it is one of my favourite races of the season, I would hate to miss it.

Balint awesome set of images, and under the duress of being sick. Thanks for documenting cross so well, and that women’s race, what a cracker.
Carl, thanks for your kind words! I’m feeling a bit better now, I hope I’ll be fine for Namur 🙂
