Crossvegas – all photos

It took me some time to put together the final edit of the photos from Crossvegas, but they are finally here. You can also check out my non-Crossvegas related photos of the week I spent in the US at my flickr account. It was one very busy week, with Las Vegas being Vegas and then visiting some friends in Houston, which turned out to be much more fun than I anticipated (not my friends, Houston), but then I had to battle with the jetlag once I landed in London on Monday. However, the first big race, the Ruddervoorde Superprestige race is only two weeks away, I am well excited!

One could hardly miss though the Bioracer stand, that featured the Vicious Velo jersey prominently once again.
The freshly crowned cross country World Champ Jaroslav Kulhavy's bike was a key spectacle at the Specialized stand.
The well-advertised duel between Jeremy Powers and Tim Johnson turned out to be just as much fun as one would have thought it would have been. The two crossers rode BMXs around in a tiny velodrome and the blistering pace entertained not only the mingling spectators but visiting Europros, Bart Wellens and Rob Peters as well.
It was a quite surprising for me (and everyone else) to find out in the morning that it had been pissing down all night long and the rain kept coming down for the better part of the day. It stopped raining early afternoon and even the sun paid a visit to Las Vegas as beginning of the race drew closer and closer.

The warm-up race of the day was the 'Wheelers and dealers' race, where riders from all walks of the cycling industry battled for glory. The pace was surprisingly fast and turned out to be a pretty good spectacle. UPDATE: The rider on the photo found this site. He's Dan Horndasch, an Afghanistan veteran, so big-up for him!

In the meantime, the pros started to warm up for their race. Telenet-Fidea riders Bart Wellens (L) and Rob Peters chatted casually with current U23 World Champ Lars van der Haar.
We all love Sporza for their superb cyclo-cross coverage and they were covering Crossvegas with a crew of four, mainly concentrating on the Telenet-Fidea guys.

The women's line-up included heavy-hitters like Katerina Nash.

Nash rode for the majority of the race with teammate Georgia Gould but then she pulled away in the last two laps and Nash's winning margin looked quite convincing at the finish line.
The men's race started right away - after consulting with Jonathan Page, Tim Johnson adjusts the front tyre pressure for one last time.
Rabobank-Giant rider Bart Aernouts rode strong in the first half of the race.
Bart Wellens flew over the obstacles with admirable ease.
Wellens rode away from the rest of the pack in the last two laps and the gap seemed to be very promising - his team manager, Hans van Kasteren looked quite happy at this point.
Though the course was slippery, it wasn't overly muddy so the pit didn't seem much action.
Wellens still in the lead, but not for long.
The pursuers, led by fellow Belgian Bart Aernouts managed to close the gap not much before the end of the race, thus making the finish wide-open again.
Young lion Lars van deer Haar outsprinted Peters and Christian Heule, though due to the lack of an actual finish line, everybody seemed unsure for while who had actually won the race.

The racing has been spectacular and the whole event had a very friendly atmosphere and things didn't end when the last rider crossed the finish line - the good folks at the Specialized truck started some serious grilling action.
