I wasn’t sure what to expect from the first stage of the Giro Rosa. I wasn’t expecting tall mountains, pine forests, switchbacks and other spectacular features, so it was a wonderful surprise when we drove through all of the above features and more. Even though I was slowly simmering away in my summarised winter motorbike jacket, I couldn’t stop smiling as we rolled through the stage.
The other nice surprise was Barbara Guarischi’s win. One of my main clients is SRAM and while they have won a fair amount of races this year, I hadn’t been present to any of those wins (prior to the Tour of Britain). A client’s winning rider means a happy client and given how nice the whole Velocio-SRAM team is, it made me smile doubly.
The biggest perk of having a moto driver and his partner with us is that I can work while he drives us to the next hotel, which system is the secret to get early nights during a long week like this. The only challenge for tonight is to find a restaurant to have some nice Italian food.
Stay tuned, more to come tomorrow.
