Stage 2 of the Women’s Tour of Britain. and our luck with the weather continued. A light shower overnight made me pull out my waterproofs, but we ended up with a beautiful day. A challenging one though, getting by the peloton proved to be tricky at times today. I have learnt during the early races of the season that I should avoid letting the peloton past at the beginning of the stage as the lead group is normally together at this stage and getting past them can be often nigh on impossible. Later, as attacks, wind or fatigue thins the main group, it becomes a lot easier to yo-yo backwards and forwards, but passing a bigger group on narrow country lanes can be just as tricky as on narrow Belgian back roads.
We’ve followed the two brave breakaway riders for most of the second half of the race, but they were caught and they all arrived together at the finish in Clacton-on-sea. As the breakaway was caught with 4 Km to go, it became apparent that it was going to be another mass sprint finish, so race director Mick Bennett was extra cautious when he lined us up at the finish line, nobody was taking any chances after yesterday.
Another day in the bag, three more to go. Thanks for stopping by, more to come tomorrow.
