After covering cyclocross for over six years now, I have finally visited my first ever cross race in my home country, Hungary. It was probably the smallest race I’ve ever photographed but it was definitely the most unique venue I’ve ever photographed a bicycle race. The venue was a film studio and the course weaved through two film sets. Firstly, they rode through ‘New York’ and then, after some up and down, they rolled into a medieval town centre – crazy, eh?
Fortunately for the spectators, the visitor centre offered some warmth and prime vantage point for those who decided not to brave the cold, windy and miserable weather. While it can’t (and shouldn’t) be compared to races in the Motherland, it was a great and entertaining race.
