Last year’s most dramatic podium at the Worlds was the women’s, where Hanka Kupfernagel, who had won the World Cup, had been the reigning world champion and had dominated the field throughout the season, weren’t really able to hide her tears when the silver medal was handed over to her.
This year, in Tabor, she won a silver medal again – but she was almost as happy as if she had won the race. Kupfernagel’s season didn’t start too well and it took her some time to find her form – her first World Cup podium finish was in Roubaix, the penultimate race in the season. Bearing in mind that, one can understand why she was so happy when the silver medal was awarded to her.
