A cyclocross race day can be very busy and hectic and sadly, junior races sometimes fall victim of that: I simply don’t get to the race early enough to cover them. As a result, I don’t know many junior riders, only the top few ones. However, one of my clients is a Czech magazine and last season, they started to demand photos of Adam Ťoupalík, so after seeing him racing a few times during the season, it was great to see him win the junior overall World Cup.
News broke a few weeks ago that he signed for BKCP-Powerplus and then last week he won both the TT and the road national titles in his age group, so I asked Adam a few questions about the past season and his plans for the future.
Looking back on the 2013/2014 season, what was favourite moment?
2013/14 season was very good for me, first moment was 2nd place on European Champ then my National champ. But of course my biggest win was in Zolder where I beat two Belgian guys at their race 🙂
Did you aim for the World Cup overall win from the beginning of the season and if yes, what was your strategy?
Yes, I wanted to be in top 3 overall, but after my illness in Valkenburg I didn´t believe in it but then I had stable results.
What are your expectations in the new season?
I hope for good results again. I want to be in the top 10 in every race. And the biggest goal will be the Worlds in my hometown in Tábor.
Do you know much about your race program for the 14/15 season?
I am still in a Czech team and I must race National Cup races in the Czech Republic (TOITOI Cup). With National team I will go to the World Cups, maybe during Christmas I will race in Belgium some Bpost Bank Trofee or Superprestige races.
How will joining one of the biggest teams in the sport change your life?
It’s awesome, I am looking forward to be on the same team with CX stars like Mathieu van der Poel or Philip Walsleben. After the Worlds in Tábor I will be in Belgium for the rest of season, then I will finish my secondary shool studies, and for next years I will live in Belgium.
