Where do I go from here? How can any race be prettier than today’s race? It feels like the season should now, it can only be a downhill from here.

Back in 2010, when I covered my first and only mountain bike World Cup season, I got used to beautiful locations: Maribor, Mt. St. Anne, Windham, Leogang. All were stunning locations and that was something that I have always missed in cyclocross. I do like the rugged beauty of the Belgian countryside, but I still missed the breathtaking vistas of the Alps or other mountains.

So, today was a nice bonus after years and years of muddy fields, it was a wonderful and magical venue for a cyclocross race, I thoroughly enjoyed it. It was cold but it wasn’t windy and I was dressed up properly, so even the lack of food at the press room couldn’t ruin my day (I know, I’m a diva). Tomorrow will be an early start, heading back to London by the longest possible way – will be taking the train from Milan to Paris and the Eurostar from there to London. Door to door, I’m looking at a fifteen hour day, though that includes a 3.5 hour drive back to Milan, which would be the same if I flew, so it doesn’t really count. Next week, we’re back to reality and to the cold mud, Rucphen and Namur, the double World Cup weekend, I’m curious about the weather forecast…
