It’s always the first minute that’s the hardest. There are days when I drive for hours to a race and the weather is really bad, it’s cold and really, really wet and I really don’t want to get out of the car and walk to the press room, let alone spend the better part of the day outside. But after that awful first minute, it becomes ok. Yes, it is still not the nicest day, but I know that I’ll have some great opportunities in the mud and I realise that I am dressed properly, so I’m neither cold, nor wet. And then the day ends before I realise it.
Today was a day like that and I’m glad I came and shot today’s race. The mud always makes it fun to shoot and it was good to see Maghalie still going strong and Wout going strong again. Tomorrow’s race at Antwerp has been cancelled, so the next race is Val di Sole! I can’t wait for a race in a beautiful, mountainous setting – and rumour has it there will be a lot of snow!
