Life is slowly returning to normality, but the memory of last twelve months will stay with us for a long time. While millions were trying to cope with the various challenges of the pandemic, a truncated cyclocross season offered a little bit of normality for us, even though the nothing was normal about this past season. Races were cancelled, there were no spectators allowed at the venues and all involved parties have had more covid tests over the months than we cared to count.
I’ve been lamenting it for a while if I should make a book about this past season at all but at the end I decided it deserves a memento and so I started to work on it. By and large, the structure will be similar to the last two books – three features and my best photos from the season. However, to somehow mark the uniqueness of the season, the book’s dimensions will be smaller: 20×20 cm (about 7.8 x 7.8 inches). If you have all my books, it will stand out on the shelf, standing as a visual reminder of the odd season.
I’ve managed to line up there excellent features, I hope you’ll be as excited to read them as I was when I received them. Belgian journalist Ann Braeckman sat down virtually with Lucinda Brand to talk about her amazing season. When I started shooting cross well over ten years ago, equality was just a distant dream. Molly Hurford writes about how we reached the current state, when we are very, very close to parity in cross. Last, but not least, Matt Ellis, British Cycling’s cyclocross coordinator and talent coach tries to explain the Dutch talent conveyor belt, which delivers great talent year after year after year.
Just as in previous years, there are other options beyond just a copy of the book, you can order a book with your name in the back, or with prints in various sizes.
The book is about 50% ready, the printing should start in about a month’s time and I expect shipping by the end of July.
Thank you for your continued support, I hope that this unusual edition will keep you entertained until a hopefully full 21/22 season starts later in the year.
