If courses in Ronse and Bogense had a love child, it would be Hulst. You have big slope that the race climbs up and down many times and you are right next to the sea. As someone who was born in a landlocked country, seeing the see is special every single time, even though this was only the estuary of the Schelde. But the big cargo ships coming and going evoked the sea, so I was happy enough.
The course was bit meh, I liked it, but the area was totally bare, no trees, almost no buildings, nothing to break up the visual monotony. The racing wasn’t an awful lot better, DB and MvdP ran away with the wins, they never really looked back, though the races for second were quite good.
A little respite comes now, the supposed Nationals week, which won’t be held in most (if any?) countries, so that’s a weekend off for me and for most of the riders. See you in two weeks time in Hamme!
