Moving Zonhoven further back in the season didn’t really change it. I remember, I had my reservations, maybe the wintery cold would somehow make it a less appealing event. But that wasn’t the case. It was and is still the amazing race that we got used to in its October slot.
Today’s race didn’t disappoint, the racing was exciting from the first until the last moments. It was good to see Toon Aerts back in his winning ways, it’s been a while since we last saw him winning a big race.
Next week, there will be another ‘out-of-its-usual-slot’ race: Ronse. That race normally run in October, even after it stopped being a DVV Zekeringen Trofee race for the last year or two. In October, the difficulty of the course came from the climbing, I wonder if this time of the year, the mud would also play a major factor. We’ll see this time next week!
