I was trying to think of a dry day in Gavere – and I think the last time it was this mild was in 2011. Somehow, the ‘Militairdomein’ is always soggy and slippery, even when it hadn’t rained for a while. It seems it hadn’t rained for a very long time around here, because it was nearly totally dry today.
Yara Kastelijn has been knocking on the door of a big win for a while this season, and today she’s finally done it – and in a quite dominant fashion. And she’s still just U23! As for the men, behind Eli Iserbyt, it was a very exciting race – it was good to see Lars van der Haar back in the mix, was happy to see him on the podium, it’s been a while.
Today’s race concludes the racing for October, but we’re back on Friday for the first DVV Verzekeringen Trofee in Oudenaarde. Who knows, maybe this is the last race there on the 1st of November?
