Back to Europe and back to proper ‘cross weather. Well, it wasn’t raining, but it had been raining here all week, so the course was suitable muddy. This is my sixth race in Gieten and I think I’ve managed to dial in the ‘getting here’ bit. Took the train to Amsterdam yesterday, hired a car, stayed at a friend in Utrecht, drove up and back on the day of the race and I’ll be heading home tomorrow early afternoon. The car hire will cost me less this year than the taxi did from Assen to the Airbnb near the race venue, so it’s definitely a win.
Other highlights included seeing the new road TT World Champion Annemiek van Vleuten racing cross, Maud Kaptheijns racing like a boss, Elle Anderson just barely missing out on the podium or that the elite men raced almost all the way to the line. I also liked that they changed the course slightly and thus I could find a few new spots, which makes shooting the race a lot more interesting. I’m heading home now, next week is Ronse!
