There are many unknown factors about each cours during the season, whether they changed, how muddy they are going to be, depending on the weather on the preceding days, etc. There is one constant, though: Hoogstraaten. This is my sixth year covering cyclocross and I don’t remember a single edition of the race that wasn’t incredibly muddy. My rookie mistake was leaving my wellies at home, so I was wading through thick and deep mud in my boots – rookie mistake, as I said.
