When I think of the race in Ronse, the edition that is etched in my mind is the 2013 edition. For one, it was held just a few days after Amy Dombroski’s tragic accident. But also tested us with one of the worst weathers I have ever experienced during a cyclocross race – or during any bicycle race, for that matter. You can check out the gallery here.
Today’s race was the exact opposite, in terms of the weather. The other memorable thing was the elite men’s race. Normally, I focus on the images themselves so much, that I barely see what is happening in the race. But today, even I picked up on the double drama: first Wout Van Aerts mechanical, his frantic chase and then the consequent Mathieu van der Poel mechanical. Fascinating race on a good day.
Next week, we’ll visit one of my favourite venues, the sand pit in Zonhoven – I’m very much looking forward to it. More to come soon.
