What should you do if your home country is not involved in your favourite sport? I, for one, decided to support the riders of my new home, the UK. So when I started to cover cyclo-cross World Cup races, I always paid extra attention to British riders. One of them is Gabby Day, a young and fun rider from Lincolnshire, and she didn’t fall short of surprising her fans with a couple of remarkable results.
I got quite excited in Koksijde, when she whizzed past at the 9th place at certain parts of the race and finishing 10th was probably the highlight of her season. We met briefly after the race and she expressed how happy she felt, as she didn’t like the sandy course but she managed to perform excellently despite of that. Also, the massive British fan contingent might have played a tiny part in that 10th place.
