The weather and the gear.
Here are two photos from yesterday. I was lucky that the rain and the mud didn't do any harm to my cameras and lenses. Will need to find some kind of waterproof camera protection.
Well, it didn't help that I managed to drop the flash accidentally on the ground. But the bikes whipped up so much mud that it was just the dirty icing on the mudcake.
Everything laid out in my hotel room - probably contains a couple extra pounds of mud. It took me an entire episode of Waterloo Road to clean everything.
Aperture 3 face recognition review
I've been a bit lazy recently and I haven't done the usual tagging of my photos from the last couple races, so today I decided that I'll catch up with the keywords. This means that I go through every photo I had taken during a certain race and tag accordingly (i.e. with the name of the rider). It is an arduous task, but at the end of the season, I have a great database of photos and if I want to find photos of, say, Gerben De Knegt, I can find all of them in seconds.
And then I heard that Aperture 3 has just been released and it has a face-recognition functionality. Wow, I thought, this could really make my job easier! So I downloaded the trial version immediately and set out to find out, how it works and whether I can implement it into my workflow or not.
Back in Roubaix
Last year, Roubaix was my first cyclo-cross race and this is the first World Cup venue I'm revisiting. I knew which metro to take to the hotel, I remembered how to get to the hotel from Euroteleport and I also remember which bus to take to the actual race venue. It's a great feeling.
To add something new to the mix, I rented out a new toy, a lens I coveted for a long time: the Canon EF 300mm f/2.8 IS USM. This is a huge monster, the 70-200 appears to be small next to it. I'm really excited about it out so I'll just head out to the course to see what changed since last year and to try it out :)
