Every season, there are a few races when the elite and U23 riders race together. These races are always exciting because you can gauge how the youngsters fare against the old guard and today’s race, the Scheldecross was the first race that all the wunderkind U23 riders were on the start line.
The performance of Mathieu van der Poel and Wout van Aert was spectacular and while they also needed a weaker-than-average Sven Nys, them finishing in the top 10 was nothing short of spectacular.
Another interesting aspect was BKCP’s clean sweep, their riders occupied all spots on the podium – that is not something you see every day. And many people haven’t seen it because the feed went down. My favourite speculation about the outage was this:
Did Sven Nys’ manager pull live stream plug so we can’t all see him get beat by a teenager?

Tomorrow, the cross circus will head over to Overijse, one of my favourite tracks, I can’t wait to see tomorrow’s race.

Wonderful shots as usual.
Thanks from Sweden.
Thanks, Martin!
Chapeau for all the pictures, top mark. I have been a fan of your work for years. The only minus thing is the tweet screenshot, if I may be honest.
Thanks! What was the issue with the twitter comment? I think it was pretty funny 🙂
